On June 21, 1974, a number of dedicated volunteers founded the Johanniter in Austria. Now, exactly 50 years later, an anniversary celebration was held in Vienna City Hall. Today, the Johanniter are an integral part of the Austrian social and health system. They stand for rapid help in emergencies, support in difficult situations and pioneering developments in various areas, including rescue and disaster relief, care and social services.
The President of the Johanniter in Austria, Johannes Bucher, emphasized the importance of the anniversary as a milestone in their history. He thanked everyone involved for their support over the last 50 years. Representatives from politics, medicine and social services also praised the work of the Johanniter as a social organization in the service of humanity.
In addition to rescue services and patient transport, the Johanniter offer a wide range of services. This includes training and further education programs in first aid and nursing, emergency nursing services in various federal states, refugee and homeless assistance, and specialized disaster relief with rescue dog teams and a research department.
The Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe in Austria has 1,200 employees, more than half of whom are volunteers. In return, supporting members and donors support the diverse social and charitable services, including rescue services, patient transport, palliative care, first aid training, research and youth work.
With 50 years of history, the Johanniter in Austria are a reason to celebrate. Their commitment and work have had a significant impact on the country's health and social services.
