Defamation complaint against Lena Schilling in Vienna dropped: No criminal suspicion.

The investigation into the case involving Green Party top candidate Lena Schilling, who had been charged with defamation by the Vienna public prosecutor's office, was closed due to a lack of initial suspicion. The defamation accusations from her private life therefore did not lead to any criminal consequences for Schilling.

Decision to discontinue proceedings

After examining the case, the public prosecutor's office sent a report to the Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office after determining that there was no initial suspicion. Due to the public attention, the Advisory Council of the Ministry of Justice was also consulted, which supported the discontinuation without reservations.

Justice Minister Alma Zadić actively stayed out of the case after being informed of the complaint against Lena Schilling through media reports. She ordered that neither she nor her team should be involved in the case.

Ongoing court proceedings

Despite the discontinuation of the proceedings, the matter is not yet over for Schilling. A court hearing is pending at the Vienna District Court of Innere Stadt, which concerns the revocation suit filed by the Bohrn Mena couple against Schilling. The couple is demanding that the allegations made against them during the EU election campaign be withdrawn.
