An article from www.ots.at states that the Samaritan Association has launched a new project called "Koch was Gscheits". This project is supported by the Ministry of Social Affairs and aims to provide vulnerable people with the "Samaritan Kisterl". The "Samaritan Kisterl" contains fresh fruit and vegetables, non-perishable food and hygiene items as well as healthy, ready-made meals. The project is intended to help poor families save on food costs and promote healthy eating.
Today, Johannes Rauch, the Federal Minister for Health, Social Affairs, Care and Consumer Protection, visited the Vienna Samaritan Association's Chancenhaus homeless facility. A total of 66 "Samaritan boxes" were distributed to the residents there. Rauch stressed the importance of supporting people in need and criticized the fact that in a rich country like Austria there are still people who go hungry.
Dr. Susanne Drapalik, President of the Vienna Samaritan Association, expressed her joy at the visit of Federal Minister Rauch and the promotion of the "Koch was Gscheits" project. She emphasized that the project not only offers social support, but also promotes the health of the residents through fresh fruit and vegetables and balanced meals.
The "Samariter Kisterl" is delivered monthly to families affected by poverty in facilities for the homeless and refugees, as well as to families at the LernLEO children's learning facility. A total of 600 Kisterl are delivered each month, and the recipients also receive prescriptions. Deliveries are made in reusable Euro boxes to ensure sustainability.
In addition to the "Samariter Kisterln", the "Koch was Gscheits" project also regularly offers ready-made, healthy meals in social markets and other establishments. The need for food distribution is constantly increasing and the goal is to be able to distribute 8,000 meals per month to people in need, instead of just 6,000 meals so far.
The "Koch was Gscheits" project of the Samariterbund Wien is committed to providing people in need with both food and healthy meals in order to enable them to eat better and at the same time save costs.
