Bundeswehr Conference: Preparing Germany for critical years

New security challenges in focus: International commitment to a secure world

This year's Nuremberg Security Conference offered a deep insight into the current security challenges facing the world. High-ranking representatives from the military, diplomacy and politics discussed how national and international security structures must be strengthened in order to counter the dangers of the increasingly unstable global situation.

A central theme of the event was the clear message from the Inspector General of the Bundeswehr, Carsten Breuer, about the need to make the Bundeswehr ready for war. With a clear appeal, he warned that a volatile security environment does not allow for compromises. Germany and its allies must be able to defend themselves effectively and credibly deter potential threats by 2029 at the latest.

Another important aspect highlighted by US Consul General Timothy Liston was the long-term strategic challenge posed by an increasingly aggressive China. This underlines the need for NATO to also keep an eye on the Pacific region and focus on the growing importance of this part of the world.

HE Oleksii Makeyev, Ambassador of Ukraine, made a strong statement about the urgency of the need for weapons in his country to defend freedom and democracy against aggressive threats. He made it clear that security and democracy do not come for free and that investment in a resilient democracy is essential.

The concluding discussions and contributions from representatives from Israel, Germany and Bosnia and Herzegovina demonstrated the complexity and global impact of current security challenges. Global cooperation and dialogue between nations are more important than ever to ensure a secure and stable future for all.

The Nuremberg Security Conference has once again shown that security is a comprehensive and collective undertaking that requires a concerted effort at the international level. Only by strengthening security structures and consistently working for peace and stability can a safe world for all be achieved.
