Arndt G. Kirchhoff, the Entrepreneur President North Rhine-Westphalia, the upcoming European elections as a groundbreaking election of great importance for the future of Europe. At an event in Düsseldorf, Kirchhoff warned against a strengthening of the nationalism and increasing isolation within the continent. He stressed that the election would decide whether Europe would hold on to its fundamental values such as peace, freedom, democracy and the rule of law or enter an era of nationalism and isolation.
Kirchhoff stressed that the economic environment for Europe is currently characterised by uncertainty and that a clear economic policy agenda is therefore necessary. He criticised the bureaucracy in Brussels and called for a reduction in regulations that could hinder economic development. According to Kirchhoff, Europe cannot afford obstacles such as excessive bureaucracy without losing economic strength.
The North Rhine-Westphalia State Association of Business Associations, to which Kirchhoff belongs, brings together 129 associations with around 80,000 companies and around three million employees. Kirchhoff, who has been president of this association since 2016, was confirmed in office for another two years at the event.
