The Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau (EKHN) has around 1.3 million members, of which a third, around 300,000 believers, come from Rhineland-Palatinate. Cities such as Mainz, Worms and Montabaur belong to the Hesse-Nassau Church for historical reasons.
