Joe Biden: Campaign for re-election despite criticism
The Family of the President of the United States, Joe Biden, has encouraged him to continue his campaign for re-election, despite some voices within the Democratic Party urging him to resign. Family members, including First Lady Jill, his children and grandchildren, met at Camp David and expressed their unconditional support Support for the president.
One of the people who encouraged Biden to stand firm was his son Hunter. Hunter, who has endured legal battles of his own, wants his father to show voters his combative nature rather than projecting the image of an aged president that emerged during the debate.
In addition to supporting Biden, the family also privately expressed frustration with how his advisers prepared him for the face-off. A prominent Democratic donor, John Morgan, has even publicly called for the resignation of some advisers, including Anita Dunn and Robert Bauer.
Biden's disappointing debate performance has already shaken voters' confidence, with polls showing that nearly half of Democratic voters believe Biden should withdraw so another candidate can run against Trump. In addition, many Americans doubt Biden's ability to govern, with only 27% of voters now believing he has the cognitive health to serve as president.
Despite these numbers, polls suggest that none of the people being considered as possible alternatives have a better chance of beating Trump. Neither Vice President Kamala Harris nor Governors Gavin Newsom and Gretchen Whitmer are more popular with voters than Biden. It remains to be seen how the discussion about Biden's future and the potential candidates will develop.
