Neubrandenburg: Local elections only on the 14th July completely
The city of Neubrandenburg is postponing the local elections in electoral district 1 until July 14, as the city council has decided. The reason for the postponement is the mailing of around 1,500 incorrectly printed postal voting documents in May. In the other two electoral districts, the local elections will take place next Sunday as planned. The European elections will also be held in all three districts on June 9.
Court rejects complete postponement
The Greifswald Administrative Court has rejected the request of the Die Basis party to completely postpone the election for the entire city. The party has nevertheless lodged an objection to the election. The court's decision means that the local election in Neubrandenburg will only be concluded in electoral district 1 on July 14th.
In a special meeting on Thursday, the new date for electoral district 1 was set after the incorrectly printed postal ballot papers were discovered. Despite the incident, the city confirms that the election in the other districts will take place as planned next Sunday. Citizens can cast their votes for the city council and the European Parliament.
The postponement of the election in electoral district 1 raises questions about the organization and implementation of the local election. The "Die Basis" party had campaigned for a comprehensive postponement, but this was not approved by the court. The focus is now on ensuring that the election runs smoothly on the new date in the affected district.
