According to a report by www.ruhr24.de Dortmund is planning to build two new large parks, the first of which is to be completed in 2025. The "Kokereipark" is being built at the Hansa coking plant in Dortmund-Huckarde and will be realized as part of the International Garden Exhibition Metropole Ruhr (IGA 2027). Construction work has already begun and the park is to be completely finished by the end of 2025.
The “Kokereipark” will be equipped with impressive attractions such as the “Cloud” and the “Haldensprung”. The latter includes an impressive 160-meter bridge that connects the park with the Deusenberg for 10 million euros. The completion of the park by 2025 was announced in a press release by the Regional Association of the Ruhr (RVR), which also Dortmund's Mayor Thomas Westphal (SPD) emphasized the creation of a large green recreational space.
The second planned park in the north of Dortmund is called "Grüner Ring Westfalenhütte". According to a press release from the city of Dortmund, this park encloses the site of the former Westfalenhütte and will cover an area of around 29 hectares. The planned attractions include a 4500 square meter playground and a sports field of the same size, which is intended to be particularly attractive for skaters and fitness fans. Veloroute 2, an important cycle route, will also run through the park.
Construction work on the "Grüner Ring Westfalenhütte" is scheduled to begin in 2025 and is expected to take four to five years, meaning the park is expected to be open to the public by 2030. The city of Dortmund has already published initial designs and images for both parks to give citizens an insight into the planned green spaces. The creation of these new recreational and sports facilities is likely to be both interesting and time-consuming for the residents of Dortmund.
