The day was marked by several Ralliesincluding an event at 4:30 p.m. under the motto “Mannheim stands together – for democracy and diversity”, organized by the German Trade Union Confederation, various parties and religious communities.
AfD rally in the evening on the market square
The AfD is planning a rally against Islamism in the evening, which is to take place on the market square. The Karlsruhe Administrative Court granted an urgent application by the AfD regional association, which was against the city's general decree and the relocation of the event.
After the knife attack, Mayor Specht ordered that events on the market square were initially prohibited until June 16, and the AfD meeting was also to be moved to another location. Counter-demonstrations are planned, including by Antifa and the "Mannheim against the Right" alliance.
Buschmann announces tightening of criminal law
The 25-year-old Afghan attacked several people at an anti-Islam event, including police officer Rouven Laur, who died of his injuries.
