State election in Thuringia: An unusual coalition is emerging
The upcoming state election in Thuringia is already casting its shadow. Amidst unclear majority relationships and a growing AfD, Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow from the Left about an unconventional coalition possibility.
Ramelow does not rule out the possibility of a three-party coalition with the CDU and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW) could come about. This unexpected alliance shows how the political landscape in Thuringia could be facing a radical change.
It remains to be seen whether Ramelow and his party will win the election and thus have the chance to form such an unusual coalition. The current political mood in Thuringia is characterized by a strong AfD, which is at the top of the polls.
A recent survey by Infratest Dimap shows that the AfD is clearly ahead with 28 percent, followed by the CDU and the BSW. The Left, on the other hand, is losing support and the SPD would only get seven percent. The Greens and FDP would no longer be represented in the state parliament.
In view of these developments, the formation of a stable government remains questionable. If the AfD remains excluded from the other parties, the unconventional option of a coalition with the CDU and the BSW could open up new political paths.
