Environmentally friendly Company car in Saarland: Saar-minister Jost still drives a diesel
The company carRanking The Saarland SPD state government shows that the ministers are driving their cars in a more environmentally friendly way than those in other federal states. Only Interior Minister Reinhold Jost stands out negatively, as he still drives a diesel.
CO₂ emissions determine ranking
The environmental balance is based on the average CO₂ emissions of the official cars of all ministers and prime ministers. The lower the emissions, the better the ranking. In 2024, Environment Minister Petra Berg and Finance Minister Jakob von Weizsäcker will lead the Saarland ranking. Both drive electric cars, which are considered particularly environmentally friendly with CO₂ emissions of 84 grams per kilometer.
Other ministers such as Health Minister Magnus Jung, Education Minister Christine Streichert-Clivot and Economics Minister Jürgen Barke are relying on hybrid vehicles, which also deliver good values at 165-171 grams of CO₂ per kilometer.
Jost's diesel causes criticism
However, Interior Minister Jost drives a diesel, which, according to the German Environmental Aid, produces significantly more pollutants at 194 grams of CO₂ per kilometer. This choice has not only led to criticism of the environmental impact, but also raised concerns about health.
It remains to be hoped that Interior Minister Jost will also opt for a more environmentally friendly model in the future in order to reduce CO₂ emissions and the burden on the environment.
However, the figures from Deutsche Umwelthilfe should be treated with caution, as they make certain assumptions that may not correspond to reality. For example, it is assumed that plug-in hybrids are always used in combustion mode, which may not always be the case.
