The upcoming European elections on 9 June will have a significant impact on the future of the EU. In order to give younger generation the Meaning In order to bring Europe closer to Upper Franconia as a business location, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) for Upper Franconia organized an EU project week with vocational school students in various cities.

The main aim of these project weeks was to get entrepreneurs to discuss Europe and European economic policy with the young people. The aim was also to highlight the importance of participating in the European elections. The students were well prepared and asked questions on various topics, including vocational training, support programs for apprentices, and the EU's measures in relation to the war in Ukraine and migration.
It was emphasized that for the first time in Germany, 16 and 17 year olds will be allowed to vote. This was justified by the fact that decisions are made in Brussels that have long-term effects and thus significantly influence the future of young people. According to Chamber of Commerce President Michael Waasner, the EU plays an outstanding role for Germany, as more than half of German exports go to other EU countries, thanks to the common internal market with easy access and uniform rules.
Despite the positive aspects, the EU's weaknesses were also discussed, such as its distance from citizens, slow decision-making processes and excessive bureaucracy. However, it was stressed that this does not mean that the idea of the European Union is wrong, but that there is still room for improvement. Waasner shared personal impressions from his visits to the EU Commission and the EU Parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg in order to bring the EU closer to the students.
It was made clear that draft laws are discussed and developed between the various EU institutions, which can lead to complicated and impractical regulations. This in turn makes decision-making more difficult from a business perspective. The founding fathers and mothers of the EU had the vision of creating lasting peace, and today citizens have the opportunity to act across the EU.
